NBA: The News of Today & Fantasy Pickups

Annnnnd now cue another injury for the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum. Against the L.A. Lakers last night, the rookie forward glanced at coach Brad Stevens and signaled he needed to leave. He walked off the court in a walking boot and had MRI’s on his ankle, which came back negative. Hopefully Jayson won’t be missing much time. He has arguably been a top 3 rookie this year, with excellent all-around playing ability.

In other news, Lonzo Ball had another poor game against the Celtics last night. Yes, he is a rookie, and we all know six year old children with better jump shot form than him, but with the second pick in last years draft, his jump shot has to begin dropping, and fast.

Zach Randolph is actually playing at an NBA level again, too. After being arrested and scaring his new team, the Kings, for possessing Marijuana, Randolph has been clicking on all cylinders this year. With averages of 15.6 Points and 6.2 Rebounds in the past two weeks, the only way he’ll slow down is if Skal Labissiere begins to accumulate more minutes.

Is Bobby Portis legit? After being suspended by the Chicago Bulls for decking fellow teammate Nikola Mirotic in the face, Bobby returned with a statement game of 21 Points, 11 Rebounds and 4 Assists. Even though the continuance of this stat line isn’t expected, Bobby does have a chance to take the starting job from rookie forward, Lauri Markkanen.

After trading Eric Bledsoe, the Phoenix Suns already plan on cutting or buying out Greg Monroe. He was worth half  of the trade that Phoenix bargained for. This begs the question, is Eric Bledsoe only worth a mid-first round pick? The Bucks seemed to have stolen Bledsoe, but to be fair, no one knows what direction the Suns are trying to head.

With all the drama surrounding the Suns and Eric Bledsoe, they are also rumored to be trading for Jahlil Okafor. The Phoenix Suns have interest in making Devin Booker, Josh Jackson and Jahlil Okafor the cornerstones of their franchise.

Hot Fantasy Pickups:

Bobby Portis- As stated above, Portis has only played one game this year, but it was a good one. He was only owned in 3% of Yahoo Fantasy Leagues, but after this breakout game, he is now owned in 41% of Yahoo Leagues.

Mike James- Now that Eric Bledsoe is gone, Mike has seemed to have locked the starting point guard spot for the discombobulated Suns. Scoop him up quickly, because he’ll be owned in about 80% of Yahoo Fantasy leagues by November 16th.

Boston Celtics v Charlotte Hornets

Marcus Morris- Although he has never cracked top-100 fantasy value in his six-year career, Morris’ recent return to the Celtics has been a strong one. Not only has it been strong, but he has started the past two games. It’s unfortunate that Jayson Tatum contacted an ankle injury right as Morris was beginning to gain momentum, but this makes his Yahoo Fantasy league appeal as high as ever.

Buddy Hield- On a team with youth tons of young talent, Buddy fits right in. Although he struggles many nights, he has caught fire as of late. If for some reason, he is sitting on the waiver, scoop him now before he’s gone and begins to produce top-100 value.
