First Time State Champions
“It is so nice to win this game tonight” said Sam M., the goalkeeper for CAL’s field hockey team. “Since I’ve been playing here, it’s been our teams goal to go out and be the best in the state.”

On Wednesday, October 25th, Christian Academy’s field hockey team won state for the first time in school history. It was a clutch, nerve-racking victory for the lady Centurions who had to endure multiple questionable calls throughout the game. Our ladies defeated the Assumption Rockets in a deciding score of 2-1. Goals by the Centurions were scored by senior Jacquelyn W., and freshman Claudia T.

The Epic Battle

Opening the game, Jacquelyn W. scored the first goal in under 4 minutes. The match ended up being a defensive battle for the lady Centurions, as they were battling aggressive Assumption players who were hungry for a goal. Halfway through the first half, they scored on Sam M., but little did the Rockets know that they would not score again this season.
With the score tied at 1-1, it was the freshman Claudia T. scored the deciding goal for the Centurions. With only a little over 10 minutes left in the game, Claudia drove the ball into the top left corner of the goal, notching the final score of 2-1
“To win in a deciding fashion, and to go out of my high school career with a state championship means so much to me,” said Sam M. With eight graduating seniors, it will be difficult for these ladies to replicate this success next year, but the team is in good hands with rising underclassmen such as Claudia T.
